How to Calculate Your GPA

  1. Click "+ Add Course" for each class you want to include, or edit the two rows already provided.
  2. Type the course name (optional), enter its credit hours, choose a letter grade, and pick a Level — Regular, Honors (+0.5), or AP/IB/College (+1.0) — if the course carries weighted bonus points at your school.
  3. Remove a course anytime using the "✕" button on its row.
  4. Both your Unweighted GPA (no bonus points) and Weighted GPA (with Honors/AP bonus points included) recalculate automatically, along with total credit hours — no calculate button needed.
  5. To track multiple semesters, click "Use Calculation Above" to pull in the current weighted GPA and credits, name the semester, and click "+ Add Semester" — the Cumulative GPA Tracker combines every semester you've added into one running GPA.

Frequently Asked Questions

What grading scale does this calculator use?

It uses a standard 4.0 scale where A/A+ = 4.0, A- = 3.7, B+ = 3.3, B = 3.0, and so on down to F = 0.0 — the same plus/minus scale used by most US colleges and universities.

How is GPA actually calculated?

Each course's grade points from the 4.0 scale are multiplied by its credit hours, those totals are summed across all courses, and the sum is divided by your total credit hours — this is standard weighted GPA math, so a 4-credit class affects your GPA more than a 1-credit class.

Does this match my school's official GPA exactly?

It should match for a standard unweighted 4.0 plus/minus scale, but some schools use different scales, so treat this as a close estimate and confirm against your school's registrar for anything official.

Can I calculate GPA for just one term or my whole college career?

Either — just add every course you want included. To see a single term's GPA, only add that term's courses; to see your cumulative GPA, add every course you've taken, or use the separate Cumulative GPA Tracker to combine already-finalized semester GPAs instead of re-entering every past course.

What happens if I enter 0 credit hours for a course?

A course with 0 credits contributes 0 grade points and 0 credit hours to the total, so it has no effect on your calculated GPA either way.

How does the Level column (Honors/AP weighting) work?

Setting a course to Honors adds 0.5 bonus grade points and AP/IB/College adds 1.0 bonus grade point to that course's grade before multiplying by credit hours — a common convention many US high schools use for weighted GPA. This only affects the Weighted GPA stat; Unweighted GPA always uses the plain 4.0-scale points with no bonus, since bonus amounts and whether weighting is used at all vary by school.

How does the Cumulative GPA Tracker work?

Each semester you add contributes its GPA multiplied by its credit hours; those are summed across every semester you've saved and divided by your total credit hours across all of them — the same weighted-average logic as a single GPA calculation, just applied one semester at a time instead of one course at a time. Click "Use Calculation Above" to pull in the current course section's weighted GPA and credits automatically.
