How to Generate Lorem Ipsum Placeholder Text

Frequently Asked Questions
Is this genuine, classical Lorem Ipsum text?
Not exactly. It's randomly assembled from a bank of about 110 real and pseudo-Latin words drawn from the traditional Lorem Ipsum passage, shuffled into new sentences on each generation, so the wording differs from the original fixed paragraph you may have seen elsewhere.
Why does the text look different every time I click Generate?
Each sentence is built from randomly chosen words with a random length of 6 to 16 words, and each paragraph uses 4 to 6 randomly generated sentences, so no two generations come out identical — useful for stress-testing a layout with varying text lengths.
What does the "Start with Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet…" checkbox actually do?
When checked, it forces the first word (in Words mode) or the first sentence (in Sentences and Paragraphs mode) to be the familiar classic opening, while everything after it stays randomly generated.
Can I generate an exact number of characters?
No. The slider controls the number of paragraphs, sentences, or words, not an exact character count, since sentence and word lengths are randomized within a range. Paste the result into the Word Counter tool afterward if you need a precise character total.
Does generating text require an internet connection?
Once the page has loaded, no — text is generated entirely in your browser from a word list built into the page's JavaScript, with no server calls involved.
