How is the per-person amount calculated?
The tool adds the tip to the bill to get the total, then divides that total evenly by the number of people you entered — it doesn't split the tip and bill separately, so everyone pays an equal share of the combined amount.
What tip percentage should I choose?
That's up to you and local custom — the slider goes from 0% to 40% and the four preset buttons (10%, 18%, 20%, 25%) cover the most common ranges, but you can drag the slider to any value in between.
Does the calculator split the tip unevenly for uneven orders?
No — this tool assumes an even split among all people. If people ordered very different amounts, you'll need to calculate individual shares of the bill manually before applying the tip.
What if I only enter a bill amount and change nothing else?
The tool defaults to an 18% tip and 1 person, so you'll immediately see the tip and total for one person at 18% — just adjust the slider or people count from there.
Why does the total change if I edit the number of people?
Changing the number-of-people field doesn't change the total bill or tip amount, only how the per-person figure is divided — the total bill and tip stay based on your bill amount and tip percentage alone.
