Discount & Sale Price Calculator

Find the final price after one or two stacked discounts, or work backward from a sale price to the original.

How to Calculate a Discounted Price

  1. Choose "Find Sale Price" to work forward from an original price, or "Find Original Price" to work backward from what you paid.
  2. In Find Sale Price mode, enter the item's original price and its discount percentage — add a second "Additional discount" if two discounts stack (like an extra 10% off an already-marked-down item), and optionally a sales tax rate.
  3. In Find Original Price mode, enter the final price you paid and the discount(s) that were applied to work out what the item cost before any discount.
  4. Click "Calculate" to see the results.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the calculator apply sales tax before or after the discount?

After — it calculates the discounted price first, then applies sales tax to that already-discounted amount, which matches how most retailers calculate tax at checkout.

What if I leave the sales tax field blank?

The Final Price (with tax) will simply equal the Price After Discount, since a blank tax field is treated as 0%.

Can I enter a discount over 100%?

No — the calculator rejects discount percentages above 100 or below 0, since a discount can't make an item's price negative.

How is You Save calculated?

It's the original price multiplied by the discount percentage — for example, a $79.99 item at 25% off saves you $20.00 exactly, before any tax is applied.

Is the sales tax rate accurate for my location?

No — you need to enter your own local sales tax rate; the calculator doesn't know your location and applies whatever percentage you type in, so check your local rate if you're not sure of it.

How does the Additional Discount (stacked discount) field work?

It applies sequentially, not additively — a 20% discount followed by an additional 10% off doesn't equal 30% off. Instead, the second discount is taken off the already-discounted price: $100 at 20% off becomes $80, then 10% off $80 is $72, for a combined effective discount of 28%, not 30%.

How does Find Original Price (reverse mode) work?

Enter the final price you actually paid and the discount percentage(s) that were applied, and the calculator divides backward through the same combined discount math used in Find Sale Price mode to reconstruct the original pre-discount price — useful for figuring out what something cost before a sale.
