Frequently Asked Questions
Why don't two 20% discounts just add up to 40% off?
Because each discount is applied to the price that's already been reduced by the previous one, not to the original price. Two successive 20% discounts multiply the price by 0.8 twice (0.8 × 0.8 = 0.64), which is a 36% total discount — not 40%. Stacked percentage discounts are always weaker than simply adding their percentages together.
What order should I enter the discounts in?
For percentage-only discounts, the order doesn't change the final price at all, since multiplication is commutative. It only matters when you mix a flat dollar-amount discount with percentage discounts — a $10-off coupon applied before a 20% discount saves you an extra 20% of that $10, whereas applying it after the percentage discount doesn't.
What does "equivalent single discount" mean?
It's the one flat percentage that, if applied by itself, would produce the exact same final price as all your stacked discounts combined — useful for quickly comparing a multi-coupon deal against a single stated "X% off everything" sale.
