Frequently Asked Questions
Where do these thumbnail images actually come from?
They're fetched directly from YouTube's own public image CDN (img.youtube.com), which hosts a thumbnail for every uploaded video at several fixed resolutions. This tool just constructs the correct URL from the video ID and lets you download the image — it doesn't generate or modify anything.
Why is the highest resolution sometimes missing?
The 1280×720 "maxresdefault" thumbnail is only generated for videos uploaded in HD (720p or higher). Older or lower-resolution uploads may not have one, in which case this tool automatically hides that option rather than showing a broken or placeholder image.
Can I download the thumbnail from any YouTube video?
Yes, for any public video — just paste the full video URL (including youtu.be short links and Shorts links) or the 11-character video ID directly.
Is anything I enter sent anywhere besides YouTube's own servers?
No — the video ID is extracted entirely in your browser, and the only request made is directly to YouTube's public thumbnail CDN to fetch the image itself. Nothing is sent to Fixoona's own servers, because Fixoona doesn't have any.
